Ms. Karen Berg, Principal
Ms. Karen Berg joined Maury High School as an Assistant Principal in July 2010. When the principal resigned in December 2011, Ms. Berg emerged as the ideal choice to lead Maury High School as Interim Principal for the remainder of the school year. At the time, the school was facing significant accountability challenges and was not fully accredited. Under Ms. Berg’s leadership, Maury High School stabilized and implemented focused instructional and organizational improvements. In June 2012, she was officially named Principal of Maury High School, a role she has continued to serve with dedication and strong leadership.
Ms. Berg has been employed by Norfolk Public Schools since 1993 and brings more than three decades of experience in public education. She began her career as a history and social studies teacher, teaching for over twelve years at the secondary level. Her instructional experience includes Advanced Placement United States History, Advanced Placement Government, and Advanced Placement Human Geography. Throughout her teaching career, she demonstrated a strong commitment to academic rigor, student engagement, and high expectations.
In addition to her classroom experience, Ms. Berg has served Norfolk Public Schools in a variety of leadership roles, including department chair, dean of students, and assistant principal. These roles allowed her to develop a comprehensive understanding of instructional leadership, school operations, and student support systems.
As Principal of Maury High School, Ms. Berg is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive school culture that prioritizes student achievement, professional collaboration, and continuous growth. Ms. Christine Bouziane, Assistant Principal
Ms. Bouziane brings more than two decades of experience to Maury High School and Norfolk Public Schools, with a career spanning classroom instruction, athletic coaching, and school leadership. Her professional journey reflects a deep commitment to instructional excellence, student growth, and fostering meaningful connections within the school community.
She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in French Literature from Virginia Wesleyan University. Ms. Bouziane is certified in Administration and Supervision for prekindergarten through grade twelve and in French Education for prekindergarten through grade twelve. A native French speaker with intermediate proficiency in Spanish, her educational philosophy centers on high expectations and purposeful instruction, equity, and empowering students and educators through strong, supportive relationships.
Throughout her career with Norfolk Public Schools, Ms. Bouziane has served in a wide range of instructional and leadership roles dedicated to schoolwide improvement and student success. Before becoming an Assistant Principal in 2020, she worked as a classroom teacher, department chair, and varsity and middle school soccer coach, while also contributing as an instructional leader at both the school and district levels. She was selected to participate in the Norfolk Public Schools Assistant Principal Preparation Program and served on the District Wide Instructional Leadership Team from 2015 to 2020. She chaired the French textbook selection committee twice and helped write the division French curriculum and pacing guides. Early in her career, she was honored with the Inspiration Award for Foreign Language Teachers in recognition of her impact on student learning.
Since becoming an Assistant Principal in 2020, Ms. Bouziane has assumed responsibility for critical operational, instructional, and student support systems. Her work included overseeing SOL testing earlier in her administrative tenure and now includes leading the development of the master schedule, including the implementation and management of the new four by four scheduling model. Through these responsibilities, she continues to support effective systems, clear communication, and student centered decision making.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Bouziane has made a lasting impact through athletics and student engagement. She served as Head Coach for Varsity Girls Soccer at Maury High School for thirteen years and as Head Girls Soccer Coach at Blair Middle School for fifteen years. Her leadership in athletics was recognized through honors including Regional Coach of the Year, Conference Coach of the Year, and District Coach of the Year. She was also recognized by the Norfolk Public Schools School Board for leading the Maury High School Girls Soccer team to the state semifinals, the furthest the program has advanced in school history. Her coaching experience reflects her dedication to mentorship, teamwork, and leadership development.
Ms. Bouziane is passionate about creating inclusive, high quality learning environments where students and staff feel supported and challenged to grow. She believes strongly in shared leadership, clear communication, and helping every student recognize their potential and path forward.

Mrs. Tamara Dunn, Assistant Principal
Ms. Dunn enters her eleventh year as an Assistant Principal at Maury High School with more than two decades of experience in education and over ten years in school leadership. Her professional career reflects a deep commitment to student success, instructional excellence, and building strong partnerships among students, families, staff, and the community.
She holds a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Regent University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Secondary Education from Old Dominion University. She also holds an endorsement in Gifted Education from William & Mary. Ms. Dunn’s educational philosophy centers on equity, high expectations, and data driven decision making. She believes in meeting students where they are while providing the structure, support, and encouragement necessary for growth and achievement.
Throughout her career with Norfolk Public Schools, Ms. Dunn has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles. As Assistant Principal at Maury High School, she serves as Principal designee, oversees Advanced Placement testing, supervises the Medical and Health Specialties Magnet Program, leads the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, manages the Cognia accreditation process, and strengthens community engagement through clubs and school based initiatives.
Prior to her administrative role, Ms. Dunn taught AP and General Biology as well as Environmental Science, designed inquiry-based instruction aligned to Virginia SOL and College Board standards, and developed differentiated assessments to support diverse learners. She also served as Science Department Chair and Biology Data Team Leader at Lake Taylor High School, where she led curriculum development, coached teachers, analyzed student performance data, and implemented targeted plans to improve academic outcomes.
Ms. Dunn has been recognized throughout her career for her dedication and impact, including being named Teacher of the Year at Lake Taylor High School, receiving multiple Norfolk Public Schools School Bell Awards, and being honored as an Outstanding American Teacher. She is also a long standing mentor to new teachers and aspiring administrators and has participated in several leadership development programs, including the Aspiring Principals Leadership Academy.
Beyond the school setting, Ms. Dunn has demonstrated a strong commitment to youth development and community service through long term leadership in faith-based educational and mentoring programs. These experiences have further strengthened her belief in the importance of guidance, accountability, and meaningful relationships in shaping student success.

Mr. Rodney Mangum, Assistant Principal
Mr. Mangum has been a member of the Maury High School community since 2010 and brings extensive experience in student leadership and school operations. His professional journey reflects a strong commitment to supporting students, fostering a positive school culture, and maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
Prior to joining Maury High School, Mr. Mangum served as both a Dean of Students and an Assistant Principal at Norview High School. In those roles, he worked closely with students, families, and staff to support discipline, attendance, and student engagement. His experience in school administration has shaped his leadership approach, emphasizing consistency, fairness, and relationship building.
Mr. Mangum is a proud United States Navy veteran, and his military service continues to influence his commitment to accountability, teamwork, and service. Outside of school, he is an avid Harley Davidson rider and enthusiast who values the sense of community and camaraderie that comes with riding.
At Maury High School, Mr. Mangum is dedicated to supporting students and staff through collaboration, clear expectations, and positive guidance. He believes that strong school communities are built on trust, responsibility, and meaningful relationships that help students succeed.

Mr. Michael McCracken, Assistant Principal
Mr. McCracken enters his seventh year at Maury High School with more than a decade of experience across education, healthcare, and emergency services. His professional journey reflects a deep commitment to student success, community service, and fostering meaningful connections within the school environment.
He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Virginia State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational & Technical Studies with a concentration in Marketing Education and Training Specialist from Old Dominion University. His educational philosophy centers on embracing diversity, understanding adversity, and supporting each student’s individual growth. He strives to meet students where they are, providing the encouragement and feedback needed to help them thrive.
Throughout his career with Norfolk Public Schools, Mr. McCracken has worked extensively with at-risk students and has been dedicated to improving educational outcomes. As a Graduation Coach and Marketing Education Teacher, he collaborated closely with faculty, families, and students; developed intervention strategies; and mentored both teachers and student leaders. He has taught a wide range of courses, including Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Digital and Social Media Marketing, Cybersecurity, and Emergency Medical Responder. He has also served as an advisor for the Student Council Association, DECA, and the National Honor Society. In 2022, he was honored as Maury High School’s Teacher of the Year and recognized as one of Norfolk Public Schools’ Top 12 Teachers of the Year.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. McCracken brings extensive experience as an Emergency Medical Technician in both volunteer and career settings. His leadership in various EMS organizations reflects his dedication to public safety, community care, and the training of new responders.
Mr. McCracken is passionate about creating dynamic, inclusive learning environments where students feel valued and empowered. He believes strongly in building trust, celebrating individuality, and helping students recognize their potential. Guided by honesty, charisma, and empathy, he works to ensure every student knows they have a path forward.
He firmly believes that “Every student has a story, and it is our job to learn it. We should take students from adversity to opportunity.”
Ms. Vicki Lorson, Office Manager
Ms. Lorson comes to Maury after many years of dedicated service in the Norfolk Public Schools Central Office. A Norfolk native, she has deep roots in the community and a strong personal connection to Norfolk Public Schools. Her children are graduates of Norfolk Public Schools, further strengthening her commitment to the division and its students.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lorson has developed extensive knowledge of Norfolk Public Schools policies, procedures, and operational practices. She brings a high level of professionalism, organization, and attention to detail to her role, ensuring that all processes align with division expectations while upholding the standards and values of Maury. She consistently ensures that “the Maury way” is also the right way.
Ms. Lorson takes pride in supporting students, staff, and families through her dedication, experience, and collaborative approach. Her deep understanding of the school division, combined with her personal ties to the community, make her a valuable and trusted member of the Maury administrative team.
